I'll agree in terms of genre burnout, Blues & Reggae come to mind, but as far as Derek is concerned, he exemplifies the true traditions of the rock n roll melting pot and channels from places that mere mortals only dream of.
And BTFW, he is so completely fluid that he makes it look like bending strings and running scales are an everyman trait, which i'm not sorry to say, like Garcia, these guys have more talent in their little finger than most humans body's. Talk about a gifted crossover artist if there ever was one, Joni Mitchell also comes to mind.
